John Wick & Deadpool 2 director wants to helm Blade reboot

Last Updated on July 30, 2021

It was just a week or so ago that we passed along the unfortunate news that GET OUT and US director Jordan Peele has no interest in taking the helm of Marvel's upcoming BLADE reboot starring Mahershala Ali. And while that is some sad news to be sure, today we have some rather cool news as it seems JOHN WICK and DEADPOOL 2 director David Leitch wants to helm the reboot.

Leitch says:

I love Blade. And it's actually one of the first stunt jobs that I was in, the original Wesley Snipes one. I was a stunt performer in that movie. I was in the blood club. You remember that scene? Yes, dancing around in the recycled special effects blood. It was great.

While discussing BLADE and potentially working with its lead, Leitch said:

Mahershala is such a great actor, and I've been fortunate to work with some great actors, and I never go wrong that way. Having him play that role is a big deal and would be really exciting. So, yeah, I would love to have that conversation.

Let's make it happen, Marvel! If not Leitch, who would YOU like to see direct this BLADE reboot? Let us know below!

The original BLADE followed this synopsis:

Half-mortal, half-immortal is out to avenge his mother's death and rid the world of vampires. The modern-day technologically advanced vampires he is going after are in search of his special blood type needed to summon an evil god who plays a key role in their plan to execute the human race.

The original 1997 adaptation was directed by Stephen Norrington (THE LEAGUE OF EXTRAORDINARY GENTLEMEN) from a screenplay written by David S. Goyer based on the character created by Marv Wolfman and Gene Colan. Peter Frankfurt, Wesley Snipes, Robert Engelman, Andrew J. Horne, and Avi Arad produced. It starred Snipes, Stephen Dorff, Kris Kristofferson, N'Bushe Wright, and Donal Logue. Buy it on Blu-ray HERE.
