The recent second installment of the JOHN WICK franchise wound up being that rare breed of sequel which managed to equal, if not best, its predecessor. Combined with a more impressive box-office, the stage is hopefully set for an epic threequel to the JOHN WICK saga. JOHN WICK: CHAPTER 3 is currently in development, and JOHN WICK: CHAPTER 2 director Chad Stahelski told JoBlo that the sequel may not necessarily be bigger than the previous two, but will hopefully be "more creative and different." It's still a little early to spill any concrete details about the upcoming film, but Stahelski told The Independent which elements he's hoping to explore in JOHN WICK: CHAPTER 3.
We are going to put in something about the High Table, how that all works. We’re going to put in something about where John comes from, and where he wants to go. I don’t want to say too much more, but it will be a nice completion to Mr Wick’s journey.
When asked whether JOHN WICK: CHAPTER 3 will serve as the finale of the JOHN WICK trilogy, Chad Stahelski said, "in our minds, yes. But I’ll let the studio answer those sort of questions." It seems that the creative team is hoping that JOHN WICK: CHAPTER 3 will wrap up John Wick's story, but if it does well and brings in more money, well, never say never. Stahelski says that Derek Kolstad, Keanu Reeves and himself are knee-deep in discussions about the script and that they form a very collaborative and creative team who are very invested in this world.
Prior to the release of JOHN WICK: CHAPTER 2, Chad Stahelski and writer Derek Kolstad teased a possible prequel TV series which would explore the origins of John Wick. Stahelski said that the project is up and running at Lionsgate right now and that it "could be fun." As to whether the series will still serve as a prequel, it seems that they haven't decided exactly what it will be just yet.
There are a lot of ideas being thrown around right now. A lot of people working on it. I don’t know if they’ve locked in a consensus yet. But they have some very good people on it.
Chad Stahelski has made it known that he'd like to be involved with the project, but that we'll just have to see what happens over the next few months. JOHN WICK: CHAPTER 2 will hit DVD/Blu-ray/4K Ultra HD on June 13th.
