John Turturro’s Big Lebowski spin-off gets a new title and a 2020 release

Jesus Rolls, John Turturro, The Big Lebowski

It's been twenty years since the release of THE BIG LEBOWSKI, and while it's unlikely (and unnecessary) that the Coen brothers film will get a sequel, it will be receiving a spin-off of sorts with a new film featuring Jesus Quintana, our favourite bowling ball-shining maniac.

The upcoming film previously went by GOING PLACES, but now Screen Media has announced that it will receive the more appropriate title of THE JESUS ROLLS. I like it. The film is now slated to hit theaters in early 2020. In addition to reprising the role of Jesus Quintana, John Turturro also wrote and directed the film which also stars Bobby Cannavale (ANT-MAN AND THE WASP), Audrey Tautou (THE DA VINCI CODE), Jon Hamm (Mad Men), Susan Sarandon (A BAD MOMS CHRISTMAS), and Pete Davidson (Saturday Night Live). The film follows a "trio of misfits whose irreverent, sexually charged dynamic evolves into a surprising love story as their spontaneous and flippant attitude towards the past or future backfires time and again, even as they inadvertently perform good deeds. When they make enemies with a gun-toting hairdresser, their journey becomes one of constant escape from the law, from society and from the hairdresser, all while the bonds of their outsider family strengthen." In a statement, Turturro said:

It feels like a good time to release a transgressive film about the stupidity of men who try and fail and try better to understand and penetrate the mystery of women. I look forward to working with Screen Media and bring our work and the character of the Jesus to American audiences.

"It’s an honor to be working with John Turturro again," added Seth Needle, SVP of Worldwide Acquisitions at Screen Media. "His passion for storytelling and character building is unparalleled, so it goes without saying that people should be excited for the Jesus."
