Deadline is reporting that John Ortiz (THE DROP, AMERICAN GANGSTER) and Shea Whigham (Agent Carter, Boardwalk Empire) have been added to the cast of KONG: SKULL ISLAND, joining Tom Hiddleston, Brie Larson, Toby Kebbell, Samuel L. Jackson and John Goodman. There's no details on Ortiz and Whigham's roles in the upcoming film from THE KINGS OF SUMMER director Jordan Vogt-Roberts, but they will likely be playing members of the team of explorers who venture into the mysterious island.
Filming for KONG: SKULL ISLAND is expected to begin this fall, with Vogt-Roberts directing from a script by Max Borenstein, John Gatins and Derek Connolly. It's been said that the film's story will "honor the King Kong lore but in a different time period," and last month the project (which has got Hiddleston "vibrating with excitement") was moved from Universal to Warner Bros. to set up a Godzilla vs King Kong movie.
Although I'm still disappointed that J.K. Simmons and Michael Keaton had to drop out of KONG: SKULL ISLAND, Jordan Vogt-Roberts will still be working with a pretty solid cast when production kicks off, and I'm quite curious to see what he will do with the Kong origin movie.
KONG: SKULL ISLAND is due in theaters on March 10, 2017.
