John Ortiz and Shea Whigham journey to Kong: Skull Island

Legendary Pictures recently moved their King Kong project KONG: SKULL ISLAND from Universal to Warner Bros., and the transition seems to have been seamless because the casting process is still running smoothly. 

Before the studio move, Tom Hiddleston, Brie Larson, Samuel L. Jackson, Corey Hawkins, Toby Kebbell, and Jason Mitchell had been cast in the film. John Goodman and Thomas Mann have signed on since, and they have now been joined by John Ortiz (pictured above) and Shea Whigham (below). Both of them are veterans of the Fast & Furious franchise.

KONG: SKULL ISLAND 

is about a man (Hiddleston) who travels to the mythical island and home of the king of the apes. A team of explorers ventures inside what they find to be a treacherous island. The story is said to honor the King Kong lore but in a different time period.

At one point, the time period was said to be 1971, but that may have changed now that there's a plan to build up to a new version of KING KONG VS. GODZILLA.

While at Universal, SKULL ISLAND was set for a March 10, 2017 release. It's not clear if Warner Bros. will keep it on that date. Jordan Vogt-Roberts is directing the film from a screenplay by John Gatins, Dan Gilroy, Derek Connolly, and Max Borenstein.
