There have been many actors who have portrayed Agatha Christie's famed Belgian detective Hercule Poirot over the decades, and we can now include John Malkovich among their ranks. The ABC Murders, an upcoming BBC/Amazon Prime three-part series based upon Christie's novel of the same name, finds Poirot investigating a serial killer who uses the alias ABC and leaves a copy of the ABC railway guide at the scene of each alphabetical murder. John Malkovich may not be sporting as impressive a crumb catcher as Kenneth Branagh did in MURDER ON THE ORIENT EXPRESS, but the series does look quite promising.
In addition to Malkovich, The ABC Murders also stars Rupert Grint (HARRY POTTER) as Inspector Crome, who I embarrassingly didn't even recognize, along with Andrew Buchan (Broadchurch), Eamon Farren (Twin Peaks), Tara Fitzgerald (Game of Thrones), Bronwyn James (Harlots), Freya Mavor (The Sense of an Ending), and Kevin McNally (PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN).
The official synopsis for The ABC Murders:
It’s 1933 and a killer travels the length and breadth of Britain via the railway network. The killer uses the alias ABC, and strikes in a methodical pattern, leaving a copy of the ABC railway guide at the scene of each of murder. As Poirot (John Malkovich) attempts to investigate he is thwarted on every front. If he is to match his most cunning nemesis, everything about him will be called into question: his authority, his integrity, his identity.
The ABC Murders will debut on Amazon Prime Video in the U.S. on February 1, 2019.
