First off I should say I have not had my ear to the ground on any talks regarding a Lenny Dykstra biopic, so this is definitely news to me. Of all the sports icons to do a biopic they are really going with Dykstra? Alright let’s do this.
THE BLIND SIDE and THE ROOKIE director John Lee Hancock is now attached to direct the untitled movie. I can already tell you it won't be as uplifting as those two movies as this story doesn't have a happy third act I imagine. There are no plot details at this point so we don't know what period of Dykstra's life will be focused on. Will it showcase his glory days playing ball and being part of the champion 1986 New York Mets – roll credits? Or will it focus on his criminal life off the field?
Dykstra plead guilty to fraud and money laundering then was sentenced to six months in prison, 500 hours of community service, and was ordered to pay $200,000 in restitution. The real joke is that Dykstra said in an interview after he was released from prison last summer that either Matt Damon or Mark Wahlberg should portray him in the film. Dykstra’s Mets beat the Boston Red Sox in the 1986 World Series. The ironing is delicious.
What sports figure do you think deserves a biopic?
