Fresh out of Disney's D23 Expo comes the news that the studio is moving forward with a Jack and the Beanstalk inspired film by the name of GIGANTIC. John Lasseter announced the project but it will be Nathan Greno (TANGLED) who will be directing GIGANTIC. Also on board are the Oscar-winning songwriters behind FROZEN, Kristen Anderson-Lopez and Robert Lopez. Those of you with kids can surely look forward to being driven slightly insane by their catchy Beanstalk-inspired tunes in a few years time.
Let's see what Disney has to say about film:
Set in Spain during the Age of Exploration, Disney’s “Gigantic” follows adventure-seeker Jack as he discovers a world of giants hidden within the clouds. He hatches a grand plan with Inma, a 60-foot-tall, 11-year-old girl, and agrees to help her find her way home. But he doesn’t account for her super-sized personality—and who knew giants were so down to earth?
Nathan Greno commented that he hopes that "this will be the definitive version of ‘Jack and the Beanstalk’…with comedy and deep emotion." This isn't the only Jack and the Beanstalk inspired flick in the works at Disney, earlier in the year it was announced that the studio had picked up a revisionist take on the tale from Breaking Bad creator Vince Gilligan titled BEANSTALK. It was even rumoured that Vince Gilligan might take up directing duties on the project but that it was still "very early days on the project."
GIGANTIC will hit theaters in 2018.
