The character of Jack Ryan has appeared in five films so far; THE HUNT FOR RED OCTOBER with Alec Baldwin, PATRIOT GAMES and CLEAR AND PRESENT DANGER with Harrison Ford, THE SUM OF ALL FEARS with Ben Affleck, and finally JACK RYAN: SHADOW RECRUIT which had Chris Pine taking on the role. Unfortunately the latest Jack Ryan film squandered its great cast in a sub-par story and it seemed as though the franchise was done, but Jack Ryan will live on, just on a smaller screen. Amazon picked up a Jack Ryan TV series from Carlton Cuse, Graham Roland, Michael Bay’s Platinum Dunes, and Paramount TV last fall and now Deadline has the scoop on who our latest Jack Ryan will be.
The outlet reports that John Krasinski has just closed a deal to play the lead character in Jack Ryan, which won't be a direct adaptation of the Tom Clancy books, but rather "a new contemporary take on the character in his prime as a CIA analyst/operative using the novels as source material." There's no official green-light as of yet, but with the casting of Krasinski, I'd imagine we'll be getting a confirmation on that before too long. John Krasinski has come a long way since his days as Jim Halpert on The Office, and while I wouldn't have suspected that he'd be up for this role, I can definitely see it working.
Sound off below, is John Krasinski a good fit for Jack Ryan?
