Netflix certainly isn't shy about dropping some serious coin in order to acquire new movies, and the streaming service spent $30 million at the Cannes Film Festival earlier this year in order to land the worldwide distribution rights for NEXT GEN, an animated feature which finds a lonely young girl forming a friendship with a top-secret robot. Together, the pair enter a thrilling adventure as they take on bullies, evil robots, and a scheming madman. Even though NEXT GEN's influences are quite apparent in the recently released trailer, I'll admit to being surprised by the quality of the animation as well as just how entertaining it looks. NEXT GEN features the voice talents of Charlyne Yi, Constance Wu, David Cross, Michael Peña, Jason Sudeikis, and John Krasinski as the robot.
NEXT GEN will hit Netflix on September 7, 2018.
