John Krasinski shares his solid idea for A Quiet Place 2

Like many of the rest of you out there, I was a big fan of John Krasinski's horror-thriller A QUIET PLACE. I've already seen it once in theaters and I have every plan to go give it another round before it heads to Blu-ray and VOD. And like any good film, horror or otherwise, my mind has been reeling about just what a sequel might look like. And it turns out, Krasinski has been giving it some thought as well.

John Krasinski on A QUIET PLACE 2:

The thing that I loved in the movie, where my mind kept wandering as we were making it, was the question of who was on the other end of those fires, when the father lights the fire and in the distance, those other fires light up. How did those people survive? How did that old man survive?

In the extreme these characters are going through, there’s no room to think about that. They’re there, there’s an old man who’s about to scream, they just have to deal with that. I think it would be interesting to see what’s going on elsewhere at this same time.

We shared the news that the sequel was happening a few weeks back, and that made all the sense in the world to all of us here at AITH. But it turns out Krasinski didn't think (or plan) for the film to continue past it's original 90 some-odd minutes, telling Deadline:

It’s only a short while since the movie came out, but already people are saying, ‘We want to live in this world more,’ which is really interesting. I’m surprised people aren’t like, ‘Nah, we know what this is, and we just want to leave it as it is.’

To be perfectly honest, it was never really on my mind while we were making it. I never really thought of it as an expanded world; I always thought of it as a one-off.

I'm more than down with a sequel to A QUIET PLACE and think Krasinksi's idea to explore just who was on the other end of those fires is a solid way to go about crafting the next film's plot. I only hope they bring back Emily Blunt for more silent-alien action next time around as her performance is one of the very best aspects in a film that is already treading the line of a mini-masterpiece.

A QUIET PLACE is now playing in theaters nationwide.
