A couple years ago, we shared the news that John Hyams (UNIVERSAL SOLDIER: REGENERATION, UNIVERSAL SOLDIER: DAY OF RECKONING) would be directing a remake of the 2011 Swedish film GONE (or FÖRSVUNNEN), and now we know exactly when we'll have the chance to see Hyams' take on the concept. Magnet Releasing has acquired the North American distribution rights to the remake, which is titled ALONE, and will be releasing it in theatres and On Demand on September 18th.
Magnolia president Eamonn Bowles said this is "a truly terrying film, a master class in primal suspense."
Written by Mattias Olsson, who also wrote GONE and directed the film with Henrik JP Åkesson, ALONE moves the story from Sweden to the wilderness of the Pacific Northwest. It stars Jules Willcox as
recently widowed Jessica who, fleeing the city in a desperate attempt to cope with the loss of her late husband, is kidnapped and locked away in a mysterious man’s cabin. Her escape from the clutches of this murderous captor land her in the heart of the untamed wilderness, with only her wits to rely on for survival as her pursuer closes in.
Willcox's co-stars include Marc Menchaca and Anthony Heald.
ALONE is produced by Jordan Foley and Jonathan Rosenthal through their company Mill House Motion Pictures, along with Mike Macari and Åkesson. Yeardley Smith and Ben Cornwell of Paperclip Limited serve as executive producers. Yes, this movie is executive produced by the actress who voices Lisa Simpson and dealt with the insanity of MAXIMUM OVERDRIVE.
Hyams is supposed to direct (with Nicolas Winding Refn) a television series based on the 1988 classic MANIAC COP for HBO at some point, and ALONE sounds like it will be an interesting movie to check out while we wait for that other Hyams remake.
