In the last couple years, John Gallagher Jr. has been locked in an underground bunker with John Goodman and Mary Elizabeth Winstead in 10 CLOVERFIELD LANE, menaced Kate Siegel in HUSH, and been trapped in an office building with bloodthirsty co-workers in THE BELKO EXPERIMENT (pictured above). Now he's keeping his streak of genre work going with a role in the Amblin Pictures / Picture Company horror film LARRY.
Based on a short film that was made by writer/director Jacob Chase, LARRY is about
a troubled young boy and his family, who become the target of a terrifying monster that materializes through electronic devices such as smartphones and tablets.
Gallagher's co-stars will include Gillian Jacobs and Azhy Robertson. Reports have said that the film will center on the interactions between Jacobs and Robertson, reminiscent of the pairing of Bruce Willis and Haley Joel Osment in THE SIXTH SENSE.
LARRY has also been compared to POLTERGEIST and MAMA, and it's meant to "harken back to early Amblin movies".
The film is being produced by The Picture Company's Alex Heineman and Andrew Rona.
I'm looking forward to seeing how this is going to turn out, although LARRY strikes me as an odd and underwhelming title for a story about an electro-monster.
Even though Gallagher's involvement was only just announced, LARRY actually started filming at the beginning of October and has already wrapped. Jacobs took a selfie with Robertson on their last day:
