John Carpenter & Shudder working on Prince of Darkness series?

Last Updated on August 2, 2021

As we lose more and more of our iconic horror directors such as Wes Craven, Tobe Hooper, and George A. Romero, it's good to know that Mr. John Carpenter is still going strong. Not only is the man out and about performing his music live, but Blumhouse has an upcoming direct sequel to his hit slasher flick HALLOWEEN hitting soon (you may have heard of it).

And today we have news (a rumor) started by Carpenter himself that he's working on a TV series based on his mini-classic PRINCE OF DARKNESS starring Donald Pleasence and Alice Cooper. The series is said to be in the works over at Shudder, and Carpenter all but confirmed its existence to Consequence of Sound telling them:

We’re talking to [Shudder] about doing a theme. And maybe doing a show for them. What would you think about Prince of Darkness as a TV show?

He then quickly said:

Well, maybe. Maybe not. I don’t know. I’m not going to tell you. I’m not going to tell you.

So is there a PRINCE OF DARKNESS TV series headed our way via Shudder and John Carpenter in the near-future? It sure sounds like it. But until we have confirmation one way or the other, let's call this a bad-ass rumor for the time being, and let's all let Shudder know how much we'd like to see this – regardless of whether or not it's in the works or not.

Bring it on!

Carpenter's original film had this synopsis:

Poking around in a church cellar, a priest (Donald Pleasence) finds an otherworldly vial filled with slime. Frightened, he brings his discovery to a circle of top scholars and scientists, who eventually learn that the strange liquid is the essence of Satan. The slime then begins to seep out, turning some of the academics into zombified killers. As the possessed battle the survivors, student Kelly (Susan Blanchard) is infected by a large quantity of the liquid and becomes Satan personified.
