So this is cool! In a recent interview with The Daily Beast, iconic genre filmmaker John Carpenter (Halloween, The Thing, They Live) said that, if given the right opportunity, he'd be willing to come back to directing after a decade away from the industry.
Here's the pertinent quote:
I’m working on a couple of things. But I’m not doing anything for a while, until the world comes back and rights itself. It’s insane now. It’s nuts! I’m not going to go out there and get sick.
Now, while this is potentially exciting, as he said, it may still be a while due to the pandemic, and furthermore he's currently happy just making music, stating:
Music is a lot more gratifying, in a way, because there it is. It’s right in front of you, and you don’t have to wait until it’s cut together and deal with an armory of people making movies.
Besides all that, the interview itself is just really fascinating, as Carpenter is very affable and the topics are wide-ranging and engaging, so it's well worth taking a look when you get a chance!
Meanwhile, Carpenter's latest project – the synthwave album Lost Themes III – is coming out February 5th (PRE-ORDER HERE!)
So what do you guys think? Fans of Carpenter's work? If so, would you like to see him return? Either way, sound off below!
