Horror mastermind John Carpenter has recently taken to his personal Twitter account to tease fans about not one, but two sequels to 2018's well-received HALLOWEEN reboot.
The tease comes to us on a relatively quiet San Diego Comic-Con Friday, where some of the biggest studios are showcasing their hottest upcoming projects. Not to be left out of the mix, Carpenter dropped this sweet tease like a hot candy apple for fans to sink their fangs into.
As per the tweet, Carpenter shared that the saga of Michael Myers and Laurie Strode isn't over, and that on October 16, 2020, a sequel to director David Gordon Green's HALLOWEEN will trick 'r treat its way into theaters, with plans for HALLOWEEN 3 to arrive on October 15, 2021. Presumably, if the tweet is indeed teasing the titles of both films, HALLOWEEN 2 will be called HALLOWEEN KILLS, with HALLOWEEN 3 possibly arriving as HALLOWEEN ENDS.
Oh snap! Shorly after Carpenter unleashed the big news, Jason Blum took to his own Twitter account to announce that yes, the whole HALLOWEEN team will return for the next two films in the franchise!
When Michael Myers returned to the horror scene in 2018, fans of the character were curious as to what writers Jeff Fradley, Danny McBride, and David Gordon Green has cooked up for one of the genre's most iconic slashers. As it happens, the film had received an impressive amount of positive reviews from critics and fans alike, earning a total of $255.4 million at the worldwide box office.
In a bold move, HALLOWEEN scrapped the groundwork laid by any sequel following Carpenter's original film. As a way of lending weight to the project, Green and Carpenter had landed screen legend Jamie Lee Curtis to reprise her role as Laurie Strode, Michael's original obsession, and Nick Castle, who'd starred as The Shape way back in 1978.
Having confirmed two sequels this afternoon, one must assume that Carpenter and his team have one hell of a finale in mind for Laurie, her family, and of course, Michael Myers. We'll be sure to bring you more updates about this exciting news as it comes.
