DETROIT brings Oscar-winner Kathryn Bigelow back to the big screen after a five-year absence, and based on the early footage we can only surmise it’s going to be a wallop of a return. Starring John Boyega, A new trailer has dropped for the upcoming film which takes place during the Detroit riots of 1967, and needless to say Bigleow’s penchant for mood and atmosphere permeates from beginning to end. It’s a hell of a way to spend two minutes.
Bigelow is easily one of the best directors working around, and it truly speaks to her craft how she takes her time picking and working on projects. I think DETROIT will speak to many issues people feel are prevalent, given the current climate between law enforcement and average citizens. From a pure filmmaking standpoint all the actors look top notch, with standouts being Boyega and Will Poulter, and the confines of the Algiers Motel will make a gripping setting. The first trailer seemed a little heavy on the action for me, but this one gets into the story details into the nature of the story in a much more revealing way. There's a certain highly-anticipated Stephen King adaptation coming out the same day as this one, but it's going to have to wait until I see I've gotten my Bigelow feel.
DETROIT with Boyea, Poulter, Jason Mitchell, John Krasinski, Anthony Mackie and more arrives August 4
