Wish Upon Joey King release date Shannon Purser

WISH UPON is an upcoming thriller with some seriously fun potential. In the tradition of WISHMASTER (and to a lesser extent, LEPRECHAUN), the film focuses on a young lady played by Joey King (THE CONJURING, above) who gains a magical box that allows her wishes to come true. This being a horror movie, those wishes come with deadly consequences. I was recently on the set of this film and it looks like there's going to be some gnarly stuff involved – think deaths in the vein of the FINAL DESTINATION franchise – so there's reason to be hopeful a cool new horror series is being granted to us.

Distributor Broadgreen Pictures has just given the film a very ambitious release date: June 30th. That's right in the thick of summer blockbuster season. Dimension has already staked out that date for AMITYVILLE: THE AWAKENING, but as that film has been pushed around more than a nerd at a bully convention, there's a very good chance it'll move once more. In fact, I'm beginning to doubt it's a real movie at all.

Written by Barbara Marshall and directed by John R. Leonetti, WISH UPON has the following synopsis:

Twelve years after discovering her mother’s suicide, 17-year-old CLARE SHANNON is bullied in high school, embarrassed by her manic, hoarder father JONATHAN and ignored by her longtime crush. All that changes when her father comes home with an old music box whose inscription promises to grant its owner seven wishes. While Clare is initially skeptical of this magic box, she can’t help but be seduced by its dark powers, and is thrilled as her life radically improves with each wish. Clare finally has the life she’s always wanted and everything seems perfect – until the people closest to her begin dying in violent and elaborate ways after each wish. Clare realizes that she must get rid of the box, but finds herself unable and unwilling to part with her new-and-improved life – leading her down a dark and dangerous path.

Ryan Phillippe, Sydney Park, Shannon Purser, Elisabeth Röhm, Mitchell Slaggert, Josephine Langford, Ki Hong Lee, Sherilyn Fenn, and Alice Lee co-star.
