Lace up your stompin' boots, press your most intimidating fatigues, and get ready to go in hot, because it's been announced that Joel Kinnaman will be reprising his role as the leader of Task Force X, Rick Flag, for director James Gunn's THE SUICIDE SQUAD.
The ROBOCOP and RUN ALL NIGHT actor revealed his return to DC's "worst of the worst" franchise via Instagram yesterday, when he posted a photo of himself lounging at the gun range beside bags of bullets. Kinnaman is the latest player to confirm his return to the villain-centric franchise, after Margot Robbie, Jai Courtney, and Viola Davis said that they too were game for causing more mayhem amidst the DCU. Also set to join the aforementioned actors as Amanda Waller's puppets of pyrotechnics and political upheaval are David Dastmalchian as Polka-Dot Man, Daniela Melchior as a female version of the classic villain Ratcatcher, and Idris Elba in a yet-to-be-revealed role.

As rumors about the film continue to swirl, there had been whispers that Gunn's Suicide Squad reboot would see the project's returning cast members taking a dirt nap within the first five minutes of the movie. While the series is known for removing characters from the board rather unceremoniously, I'd be positively stunned if Gunn opted to kill any of his star players that early in the presentation. After all, we don't want another Slipknot fiasco on our hands, do we? Remember that guy? Probably not, on account of him going "kablooie" without so much as a "how do you do?" Rest in pieces, Slipknot. I doubt you'll be missed.
James Gunn's THE SUICIDE SQUAD is set to invade theaters on August 6, 2021.
