Although David Ayer's SUICIDE SQUAD certainly looked promising, the final film wound up falling sort of expectations, with many critics taking issue with its choppy plot and wasted characters, but as the film impressed at the box-office, a sequel was all but guaranteed. As Warner Bros. has clearly learned a few lessons (at least, I would hope so) from their successes and failures over the past year, there's every reason to believe that the SUICIDE SQUAD sequel will address the issues with the first film.
While speaking with Yahoo! about his Netflix series Altered Carbon, Joel Kinnaman was asked where SUICIDE SQUAD went wrong, and with a laugh, the actor replied, "in the third act." Kinnaman went on to reveal just how he's hoping Gavin O'Conner's sequel will improve upon the first.
It was a great set-up, great characters. I think when we do a second one I wouldn’t be surprised if we saw a more grounded version of the film. The characters are so extreme, so I think it could be more effective if we're seeing them with maybe less sorcery. I think the characters become more extreme if you see them in conjunction with real people.
With the Enchantress (Cara Delevingne) now out of the picture, Joel Kinnaman may get his wish for a little less sorcery in the sequel. However, if the rumours are true, the SUICIDE SQUAD sequel may not stray too far from the mystical. Last year it was rumoured that the sequel will find the team tasked with tracking down a weapon of mass destruction, which just so happens to be Black Adam (Dwayne Johnson). Keep your supply of salt handy for that one.
What changes would you make in order to improve SUICIDE SQUAD 2?
