It has been almost exactly one year since we shared the news that HATCHET actor Joel David Moore will be writing and directing a remake of Huh Jung's 2013 South Korean film HIDE AND SEEK (a.k.a. SUM-BAKK-OG-JIL), and now an update on the project has come along in the form of a casting announcement.
Jung's film was a "social horror-thriller" that centered on
a man searching for his long-lost brother who stumbles upon a secret world of squatters living in the homes of unsuspecting tenants — a revelation that becomes all the more menacing when his home becomes the next target.
The U.S. remake is set to star Jonathan Rhys Meyers of the short-lived Dracula TV series; Jacinda Barrett (pictured above in URBAN LEGENDS: FINAL CUT); Mustafa Shakir, who recently had a breakthrough role in the Netflix/Marvel series Luke Cage; and the legendary Joe Pantoliano – better known as "Joey Pants".
A CJ Entertainment production, HIDE AND SEEK begins filming in New York this week.
I still need to watch the original film, but I'm interested to see what Moore is going to do with his version of the story.
