While the attendees of Disney’s D23 got to watch Iron Man (Robert Downey Jr.) and Doctor Strange (Benedict Cumberbatch) fight Thanos (Josh Brolin) on a space rock in a special teaser for AVENGERS: INFINITY WAR, the rest of us had to behave like children at a parade, jumping up and down trying to get a glimpse at the action while screaming, “What’s happening?! Let me see!” On the bright side, director Joe Russo is confident the rest of us lowly peons will get to see the footage soon…perhaps very soon.
One-half of the INFINITY WAR directing team revealed to GMA this weekend that the epic footage that brought D23 to its feet will probably make its way to us in the very near future, as they are currently hard at work on a trailer:
Though soon could mean sooner than you think, we should remember that time is of course relative. Soon could mean days, weeks or even months. For a frame of reference, the first GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY VOL. 2 (which came out this May) teaser didn’t hit until October 2016, with a full trailer arriving that December. Said teaser also debuted the previous July at Comic-Con, so if we follow the same release pattern that means we have no less than a few months to go before seeing a glimpse at awesomeness on a scale we can’t comprehend.
I can’t think of anything else I want more than to see that footage from INFINITY WAR. We thought to wait four years for the first AVENGERS was a long time, but this 10 years for INFINITY WAR makes that seem like a wait at McDonald’s. The first film (IRON MAN) came in 2008, which means there are children who have been born and gone on to have their first humiliating childhood experience at school in the time we’ve been waiting for this movie. I beg you, Marvel, give us this now and we’ll be good for the next 10 months. Pinky promise!
AVENGERS: INFINITY WAR arrives May 4, 2018, and the teaser will most likely come shortly before that.
