Joe Hill reveals Universal developing Locke & Key as a trilogy

After Fox'sproposed television adaptation of Joe Hill and Gabriel Rodriguez's "Locke & Key" never went beyond a pilot fans were wondering if we'd ever see the story told onscreen. Enter Universal, who scooped up the project and tapped Albert Torres to handle writing duties on the upcoming feature film adaptation of LOCKE & KEY. Now we've learned that there won't be only one, but THREE films in the LOCKE & KEY series.

This weekend at the San Diego Comic-Con panel for HORNS, Joe Hill revealed that Universal is developing LOCKE & KEY as a trilogy. Alex Kurtzman, Roberto Orci and Bobby Cohen are to produce as is Ted Adams, the CEO and publisher of IDW Publishing, the company behind the comic.

Locke & Key tells of three siblings who, after the gruesome murder of their father, move to their ancestral home in Maine. They soon discover the house has magical keys that give the bearers a vast array of powers and abilities. Little do they know (but they soon will) that a devious demon also wants the keys.

The graphic novel collections have been New York Times best sellers, while Hill and Rodriguez have been feted by the comic and publishing community for their work.

Universal's Jon Mone and Jay Polidoro are overseeing the project for the studio. Ben Kim is handling development for Kurtzman and Orci's's K/O Paper Products.

So how does this news hit ya? Three LOCKE & KEY films will be headed our way and I couldn't be more excited. There's a lot of good material to mine from in the comics so I'll be excited to see where Torres will be taking the first entry.
