Peacock’s Joe Exotic limited series is prowling onto screens in March, and now it will do so under a new title. The presentation starring John Cameron Mitchell as Joe Exotic and Kate McKinnon as Carole Baskin is now titled Joe vs. Carole. Peacock’s Joe Exotic limited series is based on the Wondrey podcast Joe Exotic, hosted by Robert Moor. The limited series focuses on Baskin, who is without question one of the craziest cat ladies you’ll ever meet. As the series unfolds, Baskin discovers that Joe “Exotic” Schreibvogel is breeding and using big cats for profit. When Baskin embarks on a mission to put Schreibvogel out of business, her actions spark the beginning of a dangerous rivalry that drags her checkered past into the spotlight. Like the big cats they claim to love, both enthusiasts have claws, and they’re not above shredding the competition to tatters.

The series also features Kyle MacLachlan, Brian Van Holt, Sam Keeley, Nat Wolf, Marlo Kelly, William Fichtner, Dean Winters, and David Wenham. Peacock’s Joe Exotic limited series hails from showrunner, executive producer, and writer Etan Frankel.

Frankel recently gave a lengthy statement about Joe vs. Carole, saying that the series takes a bold look at the events that captivated millions, and includes several knock-out performances from its cast:

“Joe vs. Carole is a wild ride. It’s a fun and rich journey into the story of people who live very extreme lives. When I took on this project a year and a half ago, I found Joe Exotic and Carole Baskin to be utterly fascinating, and this crazy tale about two big cat lovers quickly became an important story for me to tell. I hope that when people watch Joe vs. Carole just maybe they’ll see these people that they thought they knew in a brand-new way. We knew it would take two extraordinary actors to portray these larger-than-life people as the complex, three-dimensional individuals that they are. John Cameron Mitchell is one of the most gifted and thoughtful actors I’ve ever worked with. He cares so deeply about the work, and his performance is breathtaking. And Kate McKinnon is simply remarkable. She is able to make us double over with laughter one moment and then break our hearts the next. It was an absolute thrill to watch these two exceptional actors morph into these roles.”

In addition to sharing an official title change for the series, Peacock also debuted a teaser trailer for the events to come. In the promo, we get our first real looks at Mitchell as Joe “Exotic” Schreibvogel and McKinnon as Carole Baskin. While I think the makeup department could have spent more time making the actors look like the personalities they’re meant to represent, both actors appear to have understood the assignment. It will be interesting to see how Peacock’s Joe Exotic limited series puts a different spin on the events we’ve already learned about in Netflix’s documentary, as well as how it presents Exotic and Baskin to the world once more.
