Jodie Whittaker confirms she’ll return for the 12th season of Doctor Who

Last Updated on July 30, 2021

I haven't had the chance to check out the most recent season of Doctor Who, which finds Jodie Whittaker stepping into the role of the Doctor, but by most accounts, critics and audiences seem quite pleased, so it's likely good news that Whittaker will be back for a 12th season of the long-running series.

Although it was largely assumed that Jodie Whittaker would return, the BBC hadn't officially announced anything, so Whittaker confirmed the news herself while speaking with THR. "I really can’t wait to step back in and get to work again," Whittaker said. "It’s such an incredible role. It's been an extraordinary journey so far and I'm not quite ready to hand it over yet." With the exception of Christopher Eccleston (and Paul McGann I suppose), all of the actors who have portrayed the Doctor over the decades have done so for more than one season. The 11th season of Doctor Who will come to an end this Sunday, but the series will soon return, although not for the typical Christmas Special; instead, Doctor Who will be back for a New Years Day Special. Production on the 12th season of the series is expected to kick off early next year.
