While some people are content to simply sit back and watch the world burn, there exists others that are trying to save it.
Recently while attending the latest of Jane Fonda's "Fire Drill Fridays" climate change protests, held at Capitol Hill in Washington D.C., JOKER actor Joaquin Phoenix was among those arrested for taking part in the demonstration. As reported by Hannah Jewell of The Washington Post and TMZ, Phoenix, as well as THE DEPARTED and APOCALYPSE NOW actor Martin Sheen, were arrested at the scene of the event by capitol police. Reports indicate that Fonda's latest (and final) installment of the "Fire Drill Fridays" protests have amassed the movement's largest crowds to date, with an estimated 300 in attendance, and more than 100 people facing arrest.
Recently while giving an acceptance speech at the Golden Globes, Phoenix used a portion of his time at the podium to speak on the impact of dairy and meat production on climate change.
“Sometimes we wonder what can we do in this fight against climate change, and there is something that you can do today and tomorrow, by making a choice about what you consume,” Phoenix proclaimed. He then went on to admit that “there are things I can’t avoid. I flew a plane here today, or last night rather, but one thing I can do is change my eating habits.”

Over the past few months, a number of other celebrity activists have been arrested for protesting the effects of climate change, including Lily Tomlin, Sam Waterston, Ted Danson, Diane Lane and Sally Field. Naturally, the organizer of recent events, Jane Fonda, has also been arrested on five separate occasions for her ordered acts of defiance against political leaders, as well as industries that refuse to recognize the science behind our planet's rapid decline in stability and safety.
Luckily, not many of the arrests associated with Fonda's Fire Drill Fridays have resulted in more than fines in additon to a light smack on the wrist. In fact, some who've chosen to get involved are well aware of the risks, and have chosen to stand up for what they believe in anyway. In truth, there are many who will see these arrests as a feather in the cap for those that are willing to take heat. As a matter of opinion, fans who've delighted in Phoenix's portrayal of JOKER's Arthur Fleck will likely see his arrest as an extension of his character, who in Todd Phillips' award-winning film was keen to bring about change through methods of chaos as well as a disregard for the law. You do you, Mr. Phoenix.
