Damien Chazelle's (GRAND PIANO) WHIPLASH made a huge splash at this year's Sundance Film Festival, winning the top audience and grand jury awards, and JoBlo.com's Chris Bumbray also really liked the film. WHIPLASH stars Miles Teller as a young musician struggling to make it as a top jazz drummer and J.K. Simmons as his unmerciful instructor.
The first clip from WHIPLASH has been released, giving us an excellent look at just how ruthless J.K. Simmons' character will be in the upcoming movie. It's not like his character is going all R. Lee Ermey on Miles Teller in the clip, but it is a little intense, and has a bit of chair throwing and face slapping.
"Were you rushing or were you dragging?"
I have a feeling J.K. Simmons is going to completely own this movie. I love small films like this, and I really think WHIPLASH has the potential to be a solid hit at the box office, especially with the many positive reviews from critics. WHIPLASH will likely be in theaters sometime this year, and hopefully a trailer for Damien Chazelle's new movie will be released in the near future.
