More J.K. Simmons is always a good thing in my book, as is more J. Jonah Jameson, the quick-tempered editor-in-chief of The Daily Bugle. Simmons originally played the character in each installment of Sam Raimi's SPIDER-MAN trilogy, but after a hiatus of more than a decade, the character made the leap to the Marvel Cinematic Universe with SPIDER-MAN: FAR FROM HOME. Simmons appeared as J. Jonah Jameson in that film's mid-credit sequence, with the character reimagined somewhat into the head of a controversial online news outlet.
While speaking on The Jess Cagle Show on SiriusXM, J.K. Simmons revealed that we'll be seeing more of him as J. Jonah Jameson; in fact, his next appearance as the character is already in the can.
Well yeah, [I’ll be back as Jameson] that’s the short answer. There is a future for J. Jonah Jameson after a several-year hiatus. He showed up very briefly for those who were wise enough to stay through the credits of Far from Home… There is one more JJJ appearance in the can, and from what I’m hearing there’s a plan for yet another. So hopefully JJJ will continue now and forever.
As far as which film Simmons is referring to, there are several options: VENOM: LET THERE BE CARNAGE and MORBIUS have already wrapped, and given their connection to Spider-Man, it would make sense for J. Jonah Jameson to be involved in some way. It's also possible, but less likely, that he could pop up in BLACK WIDOW, THE ETERNALS, or even one of the Marvel shows on Disney+. Production on the SPIDER-MAN: FAR FROM HOME sequel hasn't yet begun due to COVID-19, but given that J.J.J. was the one who revealed Spider-Man's secret identity to the world in the last film, it'd be fair to assume that he'll be back in some form for that film as well.
