J.J. Abrams Star Trek 4 Chris Hemsworth

J.J. Abrams seems to be pretty happy with the next STAR TREK movie, and no, he's not talking about STAR TREK BEYOND, although, considering the reception BEYOND has received so far, I'd imagine that he's pretty pleased about that as well. No, Abrams is already looking ahead to the recently announced STAR TREK 4, in fact, he goes so far as to call it his favourite of the rebooted franchise while speaking with Entertainment Weekly at STAR TREK BEYOND's Comic-Con screening.

So one of the reasons that I’m hoping [Star Trek Beyond] does well is so that we can, without question, get that movie made. It really is an amazing story. It’s really the reason we made the deal with Chris Hemsworth as soon as we could because we really wanted that story to be told, so fingers crossed. [It's my] favorite Star Trek story that we've had.

We don't know much about STAR TREK 4 yet obviously, other than Chris Hemsworth will be back to reprise the role of George Kirk, the man who sacrificed his life so that his crew and family could escape safely from Nero in STAR TREK. This will allow Chris Pine's Captain Kirk to “cross paths with a man he never had a chance to meet, but whose legacy has haunted him since the day he was born: his father.” As for the cast, they haven't been let in on what this new story will be about just yet, but Chris Pine is already looking forward to reuniting with his big-screen father.

J.J. hasn’t really told me anything. But I’m looking forward to it, I love Chris, I think he’s fantastically talented. We had a great time on the first one. … It’ll be a blast.

STAR TREK BEYOND officially warps into theaters tomorrow.
