Paramount has set a release date for GOD PARTICLE, a sci-fi thriller from Nigerian-American filmmaker Julius Onah (THE GIRL IS IN TROUBLE). The studio has announced that the microbudget feature, which will be produced by J.J. Abrams through his Bad Robot shingle, will open on February 24, 2017.
Like most Bad Robot productions, not much is known about GOD PARTICLE, but it will be set in the near future, and will follow "a team of astronauts on a space station who make a terrifying discovery that challenges all they know about the fabric of reality as they desperately fight for their survival." Paramount picked up the script by Oren Uziel (22 JUMP STREET) in June of 2012, and last November STAR TREK BEYOND's Doug Jung was hired to do a rewrite. Although it's possible this will be Onah's next directorial effort, he is also attached to helm an adaptation of the Marcus Sakey novel Brilliance.
Abrams doesn't have any post-STAR WARS: THE FORCE AWAKENS directing gigs lined up, however his next producing project, Dan Trachtenberg's 10 CLOVERFIELD LANE starring John Goodman and Mary Elizabeth Winstead, will be in theaters on March 11, 2016.
