Everyone’s noted the absence of one of STAR WARS’ biggest heroes, Luke Skywalker, in the new poster and trailer that debuted for THE FORCE AWAKENS. An oversight on behalf of the marketing department? Not freakin’ likely! Associated Press recently caught up with the Abrams and he offered his two cents on the matter.
J.J. Abrams on the absence of Luke in the latest trailer:
These are good questions for you to be asking! I can’t wait for you to find out the answer. It’s no accident [he’s not in the trailer].
Abrams goes on to say that the visual effects will be worked on for the next 3-4 weeks, even though the cut of the film will be done before then. There’s also one more scoring session left to do with maestro John Williams, of which Abrams refers to him as, “a God when it comes to music.” You’re not wrong, there!
Meanwhile, there were theories floating around that Kylo Ren was actually Luke, despite the casting of Adam Driver. The latest trailer squandered most of those theories, although some still believe that Luke may have taken a turn for the worse. What did Mark Hamill have to say? Take a look.
Sean Powell on how fans are theorizing that Luke has gone to the dark side:
Mark Hamill‘s response:
Obviously the man is playing it safe, so that doesn’t exactly come as a surprise. If anything, our own curiosity on Luke and his whereabouts should match the characters who are looking for him in THE FORCE AWAKENS. Strange to think that in a month and a half, all will be revealed. Is it too early to start camping out?
STAR WARS: THE FORCE AWAKENS opens in theaters on December 18, 2015.
