As a huge fan of Stephen King’s thrilling novel 11/22/63 I was pretty bummed out when the whispers of an adaptation began to die down but today we’ve got some pretty great news regarding the project. According to Deadline it looks like J.J. Abrams’ Bad Robot is currently in negations for the rights to King’s bestselling 2011 novel 11/22/63. The transaction is being done through Warner Bros. TV, where Bad Robot is under a deal. The plan is to adapt the book as a TV series or miniseries, likely for cable.
11/22/63 centers on Jake, an unassuming divorced English teacher who stumbles upon a time portal that leads to 9/9/1958 and goes on a quest to try and prevent the assassination of John F. Kennedy, which occurred on 11/22/1963.
Now that UNDER THE DOME is underway it’s not at all surprising to see news of another King novel getting the small screen treatment. This is another one of King’s stories that is best suited for television simply because there are just so many storylines going on throughout the novel that it would be nearly impossible to properly tell the story as a feature length film. I’m really excited to see this one come to life because it’s such a unique premise and King’s take on time-travel is pretty damn cool!
