For some viewers of the FX anthology series American Horror Story, this may be the most important casting announcement they could hear for the show's upcoming eighth season, which is subtitled Apocalypse: actress Jessica Lange, who played four different roles over the first four seasons and then decided to sit out seasons five through seven, is coming back.
Apocalypse is a crossover between American Horror Story's first and third seasons, Murder House and Coven. Lange will be reprising her Murder House role, Constance Langdon, who was last seen raising the child who would become the Anti-Christ. Constance will be showing up in Apocalypse's sixth episode, which is directed by Lange's co-star Sarah Paulson.
Also in the cast of this season's cast are Cody Fern, Evan Peters, Kathy Bates, Adina Porter, Cheyenne Jackson, Billy Eichner, Leslie Grossman, Emma Roberts, Billie Lourd, Jeffrey Bowyer-Chapman, Kyle Allen, and Joan Collins.
American Horror Story creator Ryan Murphy has said the new season is
very high concept. It’s a season unlike anything we’ve done because there’s a big hook to it. There’s a huge thing that happens in episode five."
Executive producer Alexis Martin Woodall adds,
The story begins with the end of the world, and then our world begins."
American Horror Story: Apocalypse is set to premiere on FX on Wednesday, September 12th.
