Jessica Henwick has quite an impressive filmography. The 27-year-old has only been acting on screen since 2009 (and she wasn't even listed in the credits of that '09 project), but in that time she has landed a role in STAR WARS: THE FORCE AWAKENS; played a character in eight episodes of Game of Thrones; brought the Marvel Comics character Colleen Wing to life in episodes of Iron Fist, Luke Cage, and The Defenders; and will soon be seen in the monster mash GODZILLA VS. KONG.
How does she follow all that up? By getting involved with another impressive major project, of course. Henwick is now in talks to take on a lead role in THE MATRIX 4.
Deadline hears that franchise co-creator Lana Wachowski is looking to have a Neo-like female character at the forefront of the new sequel, and that may be the role Henwick has been offered after she "performed quite strongly" in auditions.
If Henwick's deal closes she'll be joining a cast that includes returning stars Keanu Reeves and Carrie-Anne Moss, plus fellow new additions Yahya Abdul-Mateen II and Neil Patrick Harris. Jada Pinkett Smith is also in negotiations to return as her THE MATRIX RELOADED and THE MATRIX REVOLUTIONS character Niobe.
While all three previous MATRIX films were written and directed by both Lana and Lilly Wachowski, Lilly is not working on THE MATRIX 4. Lana will be directing the film and has written the screenplay with Aleksandar Hemon and David Mitchell. Hemon previously worked with the Wachowskis on Sense8. Mitchell worked with them on Sense8 and also wrote the novel their Tom Tykwer collaboration CLOUD ATLAS was based on.
THE MATRIX 4 is being produced by Grant Hill.
Henwick will next be seen in the creature feature UNDERWATER, which is set to reach theatres on January 10, 2020.
