Jessica Chastain and Octavia Spencer, who first starred together in 2011's THE HELP, will be re-teaming with one another for an untitled holiday comedy at Universal. With an original treatment written by Chastain and Kelly Carmichael, and a script penned by Peter Chiarelli, the new project is being described as a female-led spin on the classic comedy TRAINS, PLANES, AND AUTOMOBILES starring Steve Martin and John Candy.
Released in November of 1987, John Hughes' odd couple travel comedy tells the hilariously heartwarming story of Neal Page (Steve Martin) and Del Griffith (John Candy) as the unlikely pair embark on journey to help Neal return home for Thanksgiving. Along their shared trials and tribulations, Del and Neal forge a friendship that will likely change each other's lives forever.
In addition to her acting and writing contributions to the film, Chastain will also produce via her Freckle Films, along with Maven Pictures. Carmichael, who is the head of production and development at Freckle Films, will produce along with Celine Rattray and Trudie Styler.
While I'm sure that this new film has plans to separate itself from the above mentioned film, I think it would be rather hysterical to see Chastain and Spencer reenact the famous "Those aren't pillows!" scene from PLANES, TRAINS, AND AUTOMOBILES.
Are you cool with Chastain and Spencer leading a PLANES, TRAINS, AND AUTOMOBILES-like comedy? Sound off in the comments section below and tell us what some of your favorite scenes from the John Hughes classic are. Personally, I've always been a huge fan of the Marathon Car Rental sequence.
