In a bleak sci-fi future, at least Tom Cruise will have a lovely lady to keep him company.
Jessica Chastain will join Cruise in director Joe Kosinski’s next project (once called OBLIVION and then HORIZONS, but now untitled). Chastain beat out other “It Girl” contenders like Olivia Wilde and Noomi Rapace for the role.
After Disney dropped the project from the TRON LEGACY director, Universal snatched up the adaptation of Kosinski’s graphic novel (from Radical Publishing) and got Cruise on board. It’s already planned for release in July 2013.
The book synopsis: In a future where the Earth’s surface has been irradiated beyond recognition, the remnants of humanity live above the clouds, safe from the brutal alien Scavengers that stalk the ruins. But when surface drone repairman Jak discovers a mysterious woman in a crash-landed pod, it sets off an unstoppable chain of events that will force him to question everything he knows.
Chastain has been a hot commodity lately, with THE HELP, THE TREE OF LIFE and THE DEBT all hitting screens in the past few months.
