Most of you probably know that Jerry Seinfeld is a huge Superman fan. The character was referenced in almost every episode of his television series, and his son's middle name is Kal. But what did he think of MAN OF STEEL? The comedian was on Reddit yesterday answering fans' questions, and of course someone wanted to know what was his opinion on Zack Snyder's film. Seinfeld says he was glad there was a new Superman movie, but believes MAN OF STEEL had too much violence, and thought there should have been more about the character's secret identity.
I was so happy that they made another Superman movie! I'm really reluctant to be critical of it in any way. But I thought the glossing over of the figuring out a secret identity and why he felt he needed one was a huge missed opportunity for that character, and one of the most interesting things about Superman is the whole secret identity. So to me it was too much action / violence and not enough character study.
I understand Seinfeld's point about Superman's secret identity, however since MAN OF STEEL was an origins story, it might be something that is further explored in the next movie, or future films. Jerry Seinfeld was also asked what is the most mundane thing him and Larry David have obsessed over, and in his response, revealed that he's working on a new "big" project with David.
We never obsess over anything that isn't mundane. Most recent was intentional mumbling. We wrote this script for this thing that you will eventually see but I can't reveal what it is at this time. All I can do is tell you is that it's big, huge, gigantic. Even bigger than that Amazon package.
I love me some Larry David, and I'm very excited he's working on something new with Jerry Seinfeld. Hopefully there will be more details about this project soon. Jerry Seinfeld also talked about his favorite episode of Seinfeld, how his collection of white shoes first started, and his thoughts on laugh tracks on sitcoms during Reddit's "Ask Me Anything," and you can check it all out right here.
