Jeremy Renner to take over the Mission Impossible franchise?

When talk of another MISSION IMPOSSIBLE started last year, it was with the intent that someone would take over in the place of Tom Cruise to re-launch the franchise.

Currently Cruise is filming the fourth installment of the series, MISSION IMPOSSIBLE: GHOST PROTOCOL. There are some newbies that have been filming alongside Cruise as well, one of them is potentially being groomed to take over the franchise.

During an interview with MTV, they asked Jeremy Renner if he was cast with the idea to take over for Cruise. The actor confirms adding, “It’s a franchise to potentially take over. I can’t predict the future and what they want, but that’s certainly the idea.”

They continued on asking if the hand-off is written in the script or if it’s something that would be made apparent in a future sequel, “I can’t really go into the details of the script, because that’s still evolving. It’s Tom’s baby. He’s the engine behind the thing. What happens after that, we’ll see.” Right now the only concern that Renner has is doing right by the franchise.

When they asked him what was the craziest stunt he had done thus far, Renner replied simply by saying, “Everything.” He then elaborated on the amount of stunts that Cruise and himself had been doing, “I haven’t gotten to work too much in terms of acting stuff, but the stunts have been insane. Tom has been doing loads. He’s crazy, that guy. It’s unbelievable. He’s fearless. He’s great to watch. He inspires me to want to be better. I’m training in the gym and working out and fighting and doing everything I can to try and keep up. I’m doing hand-to-hand combat, Muay Thai and kung fu and learning how to take someone out quickly. I need to look like I know what I’m doing!”
