Renner took to his Instagram story and posted a picture of the Hawkeye Disney+ logo along with the caption "Time To Start Stretching." The capture from his Instagram story can be seen vie this tweet:
The Hawkeye series was first announced by Marvel Studios head Kevin Feige at San Diego Comic-Con 2019. Renner will lead the cast of Hawkeye, and he appeared during Marvel Studios' SDCC panel to help announce the series, which is set to air on Disney+ in Fall 2021. Feige and Renner went on to confirm that fan-favorite Kate Bishop will be introduced into the MCU via the series. What isn't clear is who will play Kate Bishop. Last year it was announced that Hailee Steinfeld was offered the role but there were potential scheduling conflicts with her Apple TV+ series, Dickinson. It's unclear if Marvel has made any progress with Apple or if the studio is looking for other actresses to fill the role.
We dom't know much about the series beyond the mentor/mentee aspect of the plot. Renner has been with the MCU since Phase 1 and this series could be a passing of the torch to make Kate Bishop the new Hawkeye as we head into Phase 4. This is all purely speculation on my part so take that with a grain of salt.
Jeremy Renner made his MCU debut as Clint Barton aka Hawkeye in a small cameo appearance in 2011's THOR. He want on to make his full debut with his other fellow heroes in THE AVENGERS and has gone on to appear in AVENGERS: AGE OF ULTRON, CAPTAIN AMERICA: CIVIL WAR & AVENGERS: ENDGAME. He's honestly my favorite of The Avengers because he's all skill and no superpowers to help him out in battle. I share a similar sentiment for Scarlett Johannon's Black Widow because the human element makes them more interesting. While I initially wanted a Hawkeye movie, I think a series will be better suited for the character as we'll get a few episodes to get to know him more.
Are YOU excited for the Hawkeye series? Who should play Kate Bishop if Hailee Steinfeld can't take the role?
