Jensen Ackles is ready to return for the inevitable Supernatural revival

It's hard to believe that Supernatural is coming to an end after fifteen seasons, but I'm glad that Jensen Ackles and Jared Padalecki were able to end the series on their own terms. Like just about every movie and TV show out there, production on the final season of Supernatural was halted due to COVID-19 earlier this year, but shooting on the final episodes was able to resume last month. The end is finally in sight, but during an interview on Inside of You with Michael Rosenbaum, Jensen Ackles said he doesn't expect the final season to be the last we see of the Winchesters.

The ship has already sailed on this being the last season. Jared’s already got another show lined up, and I’ve got a few stokers in the fire. So we’re gonna knock this out and try to do it justice. I’ve always thought that there’s a possibility of, you know, five years down the road, getting the call saying “Hey let’s do a little short order action for a streaming network” and bringing it back for six episodes.

"I do feel like this isn’t like the long goodbye right now," said Ackles. "I feel like this is, 'let’s hang this in the closet for now, and we’ll dust her off down the road a bit.'" While the concept of a revival following the conclusion of a series used to be a rare phenomenon, we've seen plenty of examples of this in the last few years, which means that the return of Supernatural isn't as far-fetched as it once was. As far as future projects goes, Jared Padalecki is set to star in Walker, a reboot of Chuck Norris' Walker, Texas Ranger series, while Jensen Ackles will be joining the cast of The Boys for its third season.

While I think that the Winchesters have more than deserved the chance to drive off into the sunset, I'm certainly not adverse to the series being resurrected in some form down the line, but either way, I'm sure that the series will be kept alive by its passionate fanbase.
