Jennifer Lawrence says X-Men: Apocalypse will be her last film as Mystique

X-MEN: APOCALYPSE is beginning to sound more and more fitting as this may be the last entry in the rebooted franchise for several of the main cast. Michael Fassbender and Jennifer Lawrence have huge careers that are quickly expanding past the superhero franchise they helped resurrect, but they are both returning to see the arc continue through the next film in the series. Whether Jennifer Lawrence would return after X-MEN: APOCALYPSE was never certain, it seemed unlikely, and now we have confirmation.

In a red carpet interview with MTV for her film SERENA, Lawrence was asked if the movie would be her last X-MEN film to which she gave a concrete yes. What this means for the fate of her character is still unknown but I wouldn't rule out a possible death for her or Fassbender's Magneto if Bryan Singer truly anticipates wrapping up the franchise. It could also be possible to put the two characters on the back-burner and allow James McAvoy and the heroic team take center stage against some other foes. There has yet to be an X-MEN film without Magento (aside from the WOLVERINE spin-offs).

What new characters will be introduced beyond X-MEN: APOCALYPSE is unknown but with a vast array of foes in the Marvel Comic team's history, I don't think there would be much difficulty in continuing beyond this film if the studio sees fit. With the films raking in tons of money, I am pretty sure we won't have to wait long for a fourth film in the franchise since Fox has already staked out a 2018 date.

X-MEN: APOCALYPSE hits theaters on May 27, 2016.
