Jennifer Lawrence was “devastated” she lost audition for Alice in Wonderland

Jennifer Lawrence has been dominating the movie landscape ever since she starred in the blockbuster hit THE HUNGER GAMES back in 2012, since starring in more huge films and winning an Oscar. But she didn’t always have her pick of the roles, and in a recent interview with Howard Stern Lawrence talked about how “devastated” she was to not get the lead in the Tim Burton behemoth, ALICE IN WONDERLAND.

While promoting her new movie, RED SPARROW, Lawrence brought up how she auditioned for a role in the 2010 Disney movie, having just been on THE BILL ENGVALL SHOW. Normally she doesn’t fret over not getting a role, but this one was different.

The one thing that really killed me, the only time I've only ever been truly devastated by losing an audition — because most of the time, you're like, 'Move on, it wasn't meant to be, what could you do?' — was at Tim Burton's Alice in Wonderland. That one devastated me.

Actress Mia Wasikowska eventually got the role, and the movie went on to make $1.025 billion worldwide, one of the few movies to hit the mark at the time. Still, Lawrence had a good year in 2010, starring in the movie WINTER’S BONE, which secured the actress her first Oscar nomination. And though she was upset about not getting the part, she thinks Wasikowska was amazing.

She was perfect and amazing and I couldn't have had a British accent.

ALICE IN WONDERLAND may have been a massive hit, but I think Lawrence got the better of the deal. She probably wouldn’t have been able to do WINTER’S BONE, and that movie certainly showcased her skills better than ALICE would have. Plus, she would’ve had to star in the sequel, and let’s just say she dodged a bullet there.
