While speaking with the Seattle Times, WHAT WE DO IN THE SHADOWS star and co-writer Jemaine Clement revealed that a sequel is in the works, although right now the project is only in the planning stages. The follow-up will reportedly focus on Rhys Darby's werewolf character Anton.
During a recent conversation with AV Club, Clement said he and director Taika Cohen also pitched a TV spinoff series to Television New Zealand that would follow Karen O'Leary and Mike Minogue's cop characters, however before they even handed it in, they were told by the network that "there’s no money for comedy." In the same interview with the Seattle Times, Clement went on to say he's working on another HBO series with his Flight of the Conchords' co-star Bret McKenzie, which will be “kind of one-off episodes, stand-alone comedy, short films.”
The vampire mockumentary did pretty well at the box office for a movie with a budget of less than $2 million, grossing almost $7 million worldwide. The film also received very high marks from critics; it has a score of 96% at Rotten Tomatoes, and JoBlo.com's own Eric Walkuski gave it an 8/10. Are you down for a WHAT WE DO IN THE SHADOWS sequel?
Jemaine Clement's PEOPLE PLACES THINGS is now playing in select theaters, and his next big screen appearance will be in Steven Spielberg's THE BFG, which is set to open on July 1, 2016.
