Those Winchester boys have been battling the forces of darkness for far longer than they ever thought possible as the long-running CW series is in the middle of its fourteenth season. That's mighty impressive and speaks to the passion of the shows fans as well as the commitment of Jensen Ackles (Dean) and Jared Padalecki (Sam), and the upcoming 300th episode of the series will feature a blast from the past.
It has been announced that Jeffrey Dean Morgan (The Walking Dead) is set to return as John Winchester, father to Sam and Dean, a role he's not occupied in the flesh since the second season finale all the way back in 2007. "We’re incredibly excited to have Jeffrey back for this milestone episode, and think fans will love what we have planned for his character… and a few other surprise guest stars," said executive producer Andrew Dabb in a statement. Although the character of John Winchester has been long absent, he was initially the driving force behind the series as his disappearance is what prompted Sam and Dean to reunite and investigate the supernatural. Although it's been quite some time since Jeffrey Dean Morgan last appeared on the series he's always been keen to return, as he told the audience at a Supernatural fan convention in New Jersey last year.
Before it’s all said and done, and we talk about it all the time and I’ve been saying it for years — because it’s Supernatural, and you can come back (as proven by every actor that’s ever been on the show), I certainly hope that at some point not only will John return in some capacity. But I think that Sam and Dean need to have some closure with this guy and I think that John would like the opportunity to have some closure, and I think you, the audience, deserves it.
At the moment there are no details on how John Winchester will return to Supernatural, but the 300th episode, titled "Lebanon," is set to air on February 7, 2019.
