There's been a lot of rumblings about the potential return of original JURASSIC PARK castmembers for the upcoming not-a-reboot JURASSIC WORLD, but they have been seemingly quashed as time goes on (and production begins) as Sam Neill has said he likely won't return and now Jeff Goldblum has let loose that he won't be returning to Isla Nublar either. The actor was asked by The Huffington Post if he could still "do it" for JURASSIC WORLD, which he replied:
"Yeah, and they haven't called me for "4," I know Steven Spielberg isn't directing it…"
He went on to elaborate on why he wasn't in the third film as well, saying:
"No, nobody asked me, but I was perfectly satisfied with the two that I did. I'm still satisfied with that and I'll be the first in line to see anything else, so, you know. But, "Independence Day"…"
Which leads us to the planned sequel to INDEPENDENCE DAY, for which Goldblum seems to be game for and has already met with and discussed the project with director Roland Emmerich, who has stated he wants Goldblum back, although original star Will Smith is no longer attached:
"Oh, good, so he's talked about it. Yeah, they've talked to me about it and I've talked to them about it and they're excited and I'm anxious and eager to see — I haven't read anything — what they cook up. You know, I think they're trying to put it together."
Personally, I'd rather see Goldblum in JURASSIC WORLD than INDEPENDENCE DAY 2, but having him in either is a bonus to that particular franchise. Still, Ian Malcolm is a much more interesting character than David Levinson (although, some would argue that Goldblum is just Goldblum in everything, but that's not really a bad thing).
Jeff Goldblum can next be seen in Wes Anderson's THE GRAND BUDAPEST HOTEL and IFC's Portlandia.
