The third and final season of HBO's The Newsroom premieres this fall, which means star Jeff Daniels will likely have more time to work on movies. One film the actor is apparently in talks for is Ridley Scott's THE MARTIAN starring Matt Damon.
THE MARTIAN is based on the Andy Weir novel of the same name, and follows an astronaut named Mark Watney (Damon) who gets stuck on Mars after a severe dust storm hits the area. While NASA works on plans for a rescue mission, Watney must try to find a way to survive on the planet, and according to THR, Jeff Daniels is being eyed to play the NASA director who is dealing with the disaster. I guess that would make Matt Damon Daniels' favorite Martian.
THR is also reporting Jessica Chastain and Kristen Wiig are still up for roles in THE MARTIAN, and Kate Mara is being considered for the sci-fi movie as well.
Jeff Daniels is a very underrated actor, and I'm pumped he might be joining THE MARTIAN. Ridley Scott is expected to start filming for his new movie soon, so be on the look out for more casting news for the upcoming film.
Jeff Daniels can be seen next on the big screen in DUMB AND DUMBER TO on November 14, 2014, and THE MARTIAN is scheduled to be released on November 25, 2015.
