Oh hey! Welcome back to the fold R.I.P.D.! It’s been some time since we’ve gotten anything on this film. Talk of adapting Peter M. Lenkov’s comic series initially started back in 2010. At first McG was the director then dropped then rather quickly Robert Schwentke (RED) took over.
We’ve gotten some set photos, but now we have something a little more official. In EW’s upcoming issue, a pic of Bridges and Reynolds was spotted. The two are holding some pretty hefty hardware, maybe something sort of similar to a judge. Looks rather lethal, and it says “I f*cking mean business.” Okay, now I’m wondering where I can get one of these things, gold plated of course.
R.I.P.D. is due to hit theaters on July 19, 2013. I imagine a trailer will find its way online here fairly soon.
Synopsis: Nick is dead — at least, that’s how he remembers it — and teams up with another deceased detective, a gunslinger from the Old West (played by Jeff Bridges), to work for the elite task force, the Rest In Peace Department (hence the title), to track down the dead on Earth. (Due to overpopulation, some unsettled spirits haven’t gone where they’re supposed to, and are hiding out). Technically, R.I.P.D. officers (who are overseen by Mary-Louise Parker) aren’t allowed to kill anyone living, and aren’t supposed to interact with anyone from their previous lives, but Nick is haunted by the fact that he was murdered by another cop (played by Kevin Bacon), and can’t let it go.
