Ever since the release of JEEPERS CREEPERS 2 way back in 2003 it has only seemed like a matter of time before we'd see a JEEPERS CREEPERS 3, and it's a surprise that so much time has passed between sequels, especially since a script by franchise creator Victor Salva has just been waiting for a greenlight for several years. The third film was finally gearing up to shoot in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada last year when Salva's past, namely a 1988 conviction for statuatory rape, caught up with him and derailed the production, as the Union of British Columbia Performers had a casting notice removed from Breakdown Services, negating any talent submissions that had been made by agents.
According to Bloody-Disgusting, JEEPERS CREEPERS 3 is now back on, having left Vancouver and moved its offices to Louisiana.
While Salva's past does cast an uncomfortable shadow over the films, I did enjoy JEEPERS CREEPERS and, to a lesser degree, part 2. I thought The Creeper himself, as played by Jonathan Breck, was a great monster and had a chance to be a new horror icon, even if the "he only comes around every 23 years" rule does hold him back a bit. I'm all for seeing The Creeper in more films.
Breck is expected to play The Creeper again in part 3, with fellow returning actors Gina Philips and Brandon Smith joining him in the cast.
JEEPERS CREEPERS 3 will show events on the last day of the Creeper’s twenty-three day feeding frenzy, as the skeptical Sergeant Tubbs teams up with a task force hellbent on destroying the Creeper for good. The Creeper fights back in gory glory as its enemies grow closer than ever before to learning the secret of its dark origins.
If JEEPERS CREEPERS 3 is indeed currently in pre-production in Louisiana, we can probably expect to hear a lot more about the project in the coming months.
