Jay Baruchel and Jordana Brewster commit to Random Acts of Violence

Jay Baruchel, writer of the GOON films and an actor whose credits include KNOCKED UP, HOW TO TRAIN YOUR DRAGON, and THIS IS THE END, has written and is directing a road trip horror film titled RANDOM ACTS OF VIOLENCE.

Baruchel will also be playing a lead role in the film, and he has assembled a solid cast around himself: Jordana Brewster (pictured above) of THE FACULTY and TEXAS CHAINSAW MASSACRE: THE BEGINNING, Jesse Williams of Grey's Anatomy, and Niamh Wilson of SAW III, IV, and V.

RANDOM ACTS OF VIOLENCE is based on a graphic novel by Jimmy Palmiotti and Justin Gray. Baruchel wrote the adaptation with Jesse Chabot. The story centers on

comic book creator Todd Walkley (Williams), along with his girlfriend Kathy (Brewster), assistant Aurora (Wilson), and best friend and Hard Calibre Comics owner Ezra (Baruchel) as they go on a road trip. On their way from Toronto to New York for Comic-Con, bad things start to happen and people start getting killed in a fashion eerily similar to the kills portrayed in his Slasherman comic. It becomes clear that a very avid fan is out there following them and hurting people, and using Todd’s comic as inspiration. As the bodies pile up, and Todd’s friends and family become targets and victims themselves, Todd will be forced into taking responsibility for everything his ideas have wrought.

That doesn't really seem to fit the title RANDOM ACTS OF VIOLENCE, since these acts of violence aren't random… SLASHERMAN would make more sense. I'd totally watch a movie called SLASHERMAN.

Produced by Elevation Pictures, RANDOM ACTS OF VIOLENCE is currently filming in Toronto. Noah Segal and Randy Manis are the producers, with Ariella Naymark co-producing and Williams, Chabot, Palmiotti, Gray, Ricky Tollman, and Jonathan Bronfman serving as executive producers.

Elevation will distribute the film in Canada.

If you'd like to pick up a copy of the graphic novel, you can do so on Amazon.
