We’re launching a new video series on the JoBlo Horror Originals YouTube channel today, sort of a spin-off from our show WTF Happened to This Horror Movie. This one is called WTF Really Happened to This Horror Movie? The idea is that we will be diving into movies that were based on or “inspired by” true stories, real people, and actual historical events so we can try to separate fact from fiction. First up in this series is the 1975 Steven Spielberg classic Jaws (watch it HERE). Check out the video embedded above to find out WTF Really Happened to Jaws!
Based on a novel by Peter Benchley (pick up a copy at THIS LINK), who also worked on the script with Carl Gottlieb (with John Milius, Matthew Robbins, Hal Barwood, and cast member Robert Shaw also making uncredited contributions), Jaws has the following synopsis:
When a young woman is killed by a shark while skinny-dipping near the New England tourist town of Amity Island, police chief Martin Brody wants to close the beaches, but mayor Larry Vaughn (Murray Hamilton) overrules him, fearing that the loss of tourist revenue will cripple the town. Ichthyologist Matt Hooper and grizzled ship captain Quint offer to help Brody capture the killer beast, and the trio engage in an epic battle of man vs. nature.
The film stars Roy Scheider, Richard Dreyfuss, Robert Shaw, Lorraine Gary, and Murray Hamilton.
The Jaws episode of WTF Really Happened to This Horror Movie was Written and Narrated by Andrew Hatfield, Edited by Mike Conway, Produced by Lance Vlcek and John Fallon, and Executive Produced by Berge Garabedian.
